Christmas Dessert Recipe

How to Make the Delicious Polish Dessert ‘Faworki’?

If you have ever wanted to make the perfect dessert, sweet but not to sweet, then this is the perfect recipe for you. Faworki is a dessert made from shortbread, its appearance comes as a bit of a twist, literally!

So to start of you will need some ingredients;
  • 1 and a 1/2 cups of sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • a pinch of salt
  • a small bag of vanilla sugar
  • 2 and a 1/2 cups of flour
  • a small bag of baking powder
  • oil
  • frosting sugar for decoration
  • 40g of butter

To prepare the cake mix itself for Faworki, you firstly beat and rub the butter, sugar and vanilla sugar with your hands (make sure they are clean) until it forms a fluffy mass. You then add the flour (you can first sift through the sieve), baking powder, salt and eggs. Knead the dough and then knock it out with a roller (for about 15 minutes). After this is complete put the mix in the fridge for 30 minutes.

After the 30 minutes is up, take the dough out of the fridge, thinly roll it out. Following this cut the dough into thin strips with a knife. Afterwards, add a cut of 2-3cm in the middle of each strip. When forming saw dust, one end of the belt should be rolled through the incision. This helps to form the fun form of the dessert. Once you have made the cut, take one end of the strip and pull it through the cut you made in the middle of the dough. The shape should look somewhat like a ribbon/figure eight.

Once all the hard preparation is done, the rest is as easy as it gets. Simply, get your formed Faworki and place them in a deep pan, in which you should have preheated some oil, to deep fry the Faworki. Place the Faworki in the hot oil, keep turning them until they turn crispy and golden. After that all that is left to do is let them stand for a minute or two, put them onto a dish, and don’t forget to sprinkle some icing sugar on them. And they are ready to be served.

This is a perfect dessert to have with your Christmas Dinner.
