Lego Exhibition in Wroclaw

Lego, a well-known toy for many generations, has further developed its platforms. To some Lego building blocks can create amazing art. The Lego exhibition in Wroclaw, Poland is a perfect example of the mind blowing sculptures that can be created with the old fashioned toy. The exhibition has been open to the public from the 17th of November 2017, and will remain open until the 7th of February 2018, it is located in Wroclaw Stadium.

The exhibition was described as a “myriad of attractions and sensations” on the events website, although the exhibition definitely held the wow factor, it is very far fetched to describe it as a “myriad”. The exhibition consisted of various categories of Lego sculptures, such as, sport, the human body, transport and the most popular of all, Star Wars. Despite the medley of statues, this was let down by many factors. For example, the exhibition aimed to be quite interactive, as its ideal audience was children, however, the level of interaction that was accomplished was minimal. Each sculpture was accompanied by a black button, which enabled it to light up, and that truly isn’t something that would grab the attention of a child, it simply isn’t enough. Some sculptures were mobile, which made things much more exciting, until they shortly began to malfunction after several children attempted to play with it.

An exhibition to all of the sculptures, and a highlight of the whole event, has to be the record breaking, USA airlines plane model, which was constructed out of 1 million Lego pieces, making it the largest lego plane in the world. The detail on the sculpture was truly something to be amazed by.

The exhibition included access to a cafe, a Lego shop, as well as, a children’s play zone, all of which followed to let the exhibition down. The cafe was limited to only one till, which considering the overflow of people was simply not enough. This was also the case at the shop, one member of staff serving hundreds of families at once. Although, the prices were considerably cheap, the toys lacked variety, the main focus of the exhibition was a Star Wars theme, therefore, majority of the toys were Star Wars based, which left little if any other options for the non-Star Wars fans. As for the children’s play zone, it was simply dull and over crowded. The small space devoted to the play zone was insufficient, and could have potentially posed as a health hazard, considering the constantly dropping Lego pieces.

Overall the exhibition failed to reinstate Lego as an art form, although the sculptures were not an everyday attraction, they were let down by the lack of effort and planning that was devoted to each and every detail. The sculptures themselves were amazing, however, the platform through which they were displayed highly let them down.
